Hello, I am Florian (or shorter, flo), a software developer currently working with embedded Android devices. My other interests are FreeBSD, systems administration, robotics, home-automation and the indieweb. You can find me on sourcehut (git, mercurial) and on GitHub.

The name of this blog is inspired by two others: the command center by Rob Pike and The Observation Deck by Bryan Cantrill. But instead of commanding or observing, I prefer to work on the low-level foundations, hence the machine room.

I do care somewhat about privacy, so there are no cookies, analytics or ads on this site. Also, neither social media buttons nor comments.

This site runs on FreeBSD, nginx and hugo, using a custom theme.
